After the prior contract expired in January, United Steelworkers Local 7.1 rejected management proposals it said would threaten the union. The local has been locked out for over 140 days. The union says BP’s lockout is illegal and aimed at cutting pay, weakening workers’ ability to strike, and detaching the local from national bargaining. On March 2, members voted down the last best and final offer.
