Boeing’s Deferred Production Costs Grow Again Amid Delivery Challenges
Certification, production and delivery challenges have severely hampered Boeing’s division. Financial disclosures highlight a widening gap between losses under program accounting and higher unit-cost production costs tied to deliveries, with differences added to inventory and capitalized. In Q1 2026 a $563M reported loss translated to $1.36B on unit costs, and similar gaps persisted into Q2, later trued up by large charges such as $4.9B on 777X in Q3 2025.
