BMW to Restructure Jobs in Germany as South Carolina EV Plants Expand
BMW announced an extensive workforce restructuring in Germany, expected to shed about 8,000 mostly white-collar jobs. In South Carolina, the Woodruff facility is scheduled to begin assembly in December, supporting the new fully electric iX5 launch in early 2027. BMW also completed a $1.7 billion South Carolina investment, expanding Spartanburg and building a new Woodruff plant that will make batteries; no layoffs were yet announced at Spartanburg.
