BASF’s trinamiX unit sued Apple in the US, alleging Apple’s Face ID violates seven trinamiX face-authentication patents. The complaint says trinamiX developed technology to prevent spoofing of face unlock using photographs, 3D-printed masks and silicone replicas, and that Apple did not use it at Face ID’s 2017 launch but later incorporated similar material and skin detection across multiple iPhone and iPad models.
