Banks Including Citigroup Back Regulated Global Stablecoin Launch
Twenty-one global financial institutions, including Citigroup, are forming a new company to issue a regulated stablecoin. The venture is set to be created in 2H 2026, with the product live in 1H 2027, initially as a U.S. dollar stablecoin and later expanded to other G7 currencies. It follows an Oct. 2025 plan to explore a 1:1 reserve-backed digital currency across public blockchains.
