Aviva Loses Ontario Appeal in Dentist Pandemic Coverage Class Case
Ontario’s Court of Appeal dismissed Aviva’s appeal to stay lawsuits over pandemic business-interruption coverage sold to dentists by CDSPI. The insurer’s bid to pursue increased coverage was refused, leading to individual suits and a class action. CDSPI’s bar order was upheld and Aviva must pay costs of C$50,000 to class counsel, C$25,000 to individual plaintiffs and C$10,000 to CDSPI.
