Amazon Expands Rural Delivery as Shipping Costs Rise
Amazon’s volume grew in the second quarter when excluding the portion UPS intentionally handed to other shippers, making Amazon the largest U.S. parcel carrier by volume. The company is expanding its delivery network, spending more than $4 billion to triple its rural footprint to 200 delivery stations covering 13,000 ZIP codes, while worldwide shipping costs rose 19% to $27.9 billion, outpacing 15% online-store sales growth.
