Alphabet buys 100M emails from Spirit Airlines for $10M at bankruptcy auction
Alphabet won a bankruptcy auction for Spirit Airlines’ internal business records with a $10 million bid, beating Mercor’s $7.5 million. Court filings say the archive includes pricing and booking data plus about 3.4 million payroll records and 97.5 million passenger profiles, with 50 million Free Spirit records and 740,000 co-branded credit cardholders carved out. Google says remaining data will be scrubbed and deidentified by a third party for use in improving products and AI models.
