AkzoNobel name set to disappear as merger with Axalta advances
Shareholders have approved AkzoNobel’s merger with Axalta, moving the combination to the next stage, though regulatory clearance is still required. The AkzoNobel name will be removed and the Amsterdam listing will end, with the combined company trading only on Wall Street. The new entity will keep a Dutch connection. Plans were first disclosed in November, after Nippon later made a separate bid for AkzoNobel’s consumer unit, which the company rejected.
